Should have gone with the 3"..
if you're already familiar with basic tools, it's relatively easy to install. just follow the slightly missing instructions (seat should be installed 90 degrees to bowl and will stand on its own after nuts are tightened and high lift blocks used). the only size I didn't pay attention to was the waist. a standard seat sits about 1" above the bowl. this seat sits about 2 1/2" above the bowl, which is actually a 1 1/2" increase from the old seat. although it's taller, I preferred it indicated as a little bit more lift, it is as strong and stable as a plastic chair.

Looks like a normal toilet seat..
the 2 inch seat almost resembles a normal toilet seat. others I've used appear to be from a rehabilitation facility or nursing home. the others were cheap plastic and I felt a little embarrassed when a guest used them. with the 2 inch saddle you have to look closely to see that it is a raised saddle, although the 4 inch is probably a bit more obvious. installs very easily when installed vertically as shown in the instruction sheet image. it has 2 forward flanges that hook into my elongated toilet bowl and prevent the seat from slipping. the result is that it's so stable it doesn't move even though I only tightened the rear bolts with finger pressure. easy to clean. a very good match and fits over an elongated toilet bowl. more expensive than plastic ugly, but worth it.

Was doubtful at first but I'm getting there...
I am in a wheelchair. i bought many seats to find one that allows side transfer without having to attach it to the toilet bowl. i like how it looks and how easy it is to install. just read the instructions. for the most part it is a good height to transfer from my mobility seat. the bad thing is that the edge of the chair is not rounded and can hurt and cause skin damage if you can't get all the way over the edge while moving. I drape a towel over the edge to soften it and make it safer to slip off. the other bad side is that the seat is not flat, it is hollow in the inside meaning you have to lift even higher during the transfer to get out of the toilet. this allows you to slide your back over the hard edge to get out. i have to use a seat cushion and a transfer sheet under my cheek to avoid hurting myself or getting stuck and have to call my husband to get me out of the hole. the bumpers do exactly what they're supposed to and although the seat does move back and forth after a while, I'm not worried about it slipping out of the socket. so if you need to do a side transfer and you have upper arm weakness it will prevent you from lifting your chair as much as 10cm to get on and off the chair in one movement. do not buy this chair or be prepared to make some adjustments.

See the diagram before you decide on 2 inch "lift" as opposed to 3 inch.....
this product works quite well - at least for the model toilet we have - but could be improved. rear riser inserts can be heavier and sturdier. also the hinges could be a bit stiffer or could use a "catch" - the seat won't stay in place for a male user. other than that it's pretty sturdy and I was able to fasten it tight enough that it didn't wobble. it also doesn't look strange for a guest bathroom. now the main point. Please take a good look at the photos before purchasing. when the seller says this has a "2 inch rise" they mean it's 2 inches from the top of the rim of the toilet rim to the surface of the seat: not that it adds 2 inches in height. depending on how you measure the product, an increase of 2 inches between 1 and 1.25 inches in height will be added. I think the 3 inch increase means it adds about 2-2.25 inches in height for the user. I would have given them an extra star if the documentation just clearly stated that.

An excellent item but a bugger to install!..
i would give this item 5 stars except for the cons (last mentioned). Pro: A very well constructed toilet seat made of good material. it's solid with a little slack in the front. but it does exactly what I was looking for a little more space between the seat and the water level.con: the instructions suck! they consisted of a picture (actually a diagram). study it hard, for it is your only hope to get it right. a 15 minute job turned into a 60 minute ordeal. also the manufacturer did not include two booster seats (@ 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 inches in the back where the seat bolts to the bowl. i called bath1 and apparently there is no way to order just the missing risers. there is only 1 of 2 solutions: (1) return the item and re-order in the hope that the new item has all the parts or (2) accept a discounted price and fix the problem yourself.

A great product for the price...
this is a great product for the price. i bought the 3 inch white closed front. it is well made and sturdy and matches the toilet perfectly. i chose this particular product because it is like having a normal toilet seat and a blanket, only higher up and much easier on my arthritic knees. the only recommendation i have is to make it clear in the very brief instructions, as long as you make sure you secure the top and seat together. if you don't attach them properly, you will never be able to attach the unit to your toilet. look closely at the picture!! it's actually very easy to fix if done correctly!
