Magnificent and really cool mechanism for the bathtub..
I wanted to touch on a few installation issues as part of my review, but don't let that seem like a problem to you. this thing is really cool! this requires the grohflex universal rough in box number 35-026. to install. you can't just use any stock with it.now! that aside - the installation is pretty typical, but the depth of the wall may require a 2x6 stud rather than 2x4 due to the depth of the hardware. it probably isn't completely necessary (the instructions don't mention it), but it doesn't hurt to have some extra space to work with if you pre-process it. I would put this in a large shower, like something with a tile backing rather than a fiberglass shower. the correct way to install something like that is to put a small piece of micro flash behind the panel if you're concerned about water ingress, but the circular disc behind the metal plate is actually a gasket in waterproof foam to prevent water gets behind. if you are very concerned about this, you can apply a light drop of silicone caulk or water sealant behind the panel so that when placed firmly against the shower, no water can penetrate behind it. one great aspect of grohe that is rarely talked about is the lifetime warranty. even if the product is discontinued, they will have parts for 10 years after that, meaning if you want to replace it… you can probably still get parts for it. excellent ! my favorite mechanism on this guy is actually the double button. i tried my best to show it in my pictures but if you want to turn on the bath turn the middle knob, if you want to control the shower turn the top knob. very cool. definitely one of my favorite features of any grohe product I've seen to date.

Its not entirely flush to the wall. Do we caulk it? Needs universal rough in box to work..
ok so the video i attached is the only downside to a very grohe multi head shower and the problem is in that covering. the only thing the plumber dislikes about this wall finish is the fact that it is only secured by the back plate and the cover plate can be removed directly as shown in the video. and if you place it flush with the wall again, it won't be quite flush with the wall. there is a small inch of space all around between the wall and the cladding, whatever it does. and he was like "yes probably." we're left with the question "should we caulk the record against the wall?" that the valve needs to be repaired, they will have to remove it to get in. can cause more problems if and when it needs to be removed it can be damaged when trying to remove and cut it is a bit of a mystery what to do for reference we use it with a shower fiberglass i like the modern shiny chrome color the weight is good and it's substantial and good looking moveable shower head mounted there so it's not the only thing sticking out of the wall. I originally ordered it to match a grohe square rain shower head. i tried to keep the square theme in the fixtures and bathroom i give a modern look. overall the plumber said all these parts were very good quality. they were impressed with the quality of all grohe parts for this multi-head shower. note that this part also requires the purchase of the grohe boxed universal wall mount blank to work. it's not too expensive compared to this controller - maybe $70-$80 US, but it's worth noting that you have all the parts you need when you go to install it. when the plumbers saw the wall pieces (matching the universal rough box) to use it, they told the gc they needed a 2" x 6" wall to fit instead of a 2" x 4" wall that was originally scheduled for . so make sure you go through all installation aspects before purchasing and make sure you have enough wall space for the universal back box. i have ordered another grohe chrome dual controller from grohe to avoid the wall opening problem i am having with this.

Excellent trim plate typical Grohe quality..
it is a very nice finish. the faceplate is heavy metal which looks great and feels like it will last a very long time. the control buttons are also made of very resistant metal and pleasant to use. some other grohe models now use plastic control knobs that just don't feel as good. I am happy to report that this model has excellent metal controls. note that this includes the control module or valve cartridge. however, you will need to purchase a separate raw box. it's not a big deal unless you realize it and are willing to install it only to find you're missing parts. some parts of the valve body appear to be cast brass and some parts appear to be injection molded plastic. Don't let that put you off though - grohe has used a very high-quality plastic with heavy fiberglass reinforcement here. I don't see a label that says exactly how much, but it's a little. it feels like 30-50% amplification. it's a difficult thing and I wouldn't worry about it failing.

A tour de force from Grohe and thats saying a lot..
we have a lot of grohe lights in our houses and i rarely find them wrong but some are so much better than others. this piece is beautifully designed and executed. before you even open the box realize that this is no ordinary device, it weighs a ton. we have also just installed a low end grohe lighting fixture from their concetto range. my review said that, as with most grohe products, it is well built and looked almost identical to one of our more expensive grohe products. however, this piece has no equal and the difference between this and the concetto is obvious whether in an open box or mounted to a wall. this piece oozes and screams quality. we have a few faucets and shower heads with the starlight finish and they hold up beautifully. although grohe does not claim this, we find that they are not affected by mineral water as much as other coatings. our grohe rain shower smartconnect head with the starlight finish looks almost like new, while other brands we've had before started collecting deposits almost immediately (our water is soft but still has a high mineral content). i usually install them myself but i was in charge of other stuff and some travel so we had a plumber do it for us. he said it was easy to install with the right raw box. the water flow and the water temperature remain constant and constant. the knobs turn smoothly and the controls are precise. the sharp corners may knock some off but you learn to grip them and even if you grip them the wrong way and feel a little pinch from the edge it's worth it because they look so good. i know we will be in this house for at least another 20-25 years and i expect that when we leave this fixture it will still work well and still look great.

Typical great Grohe finish and quality but needs the rough in box (another $100 if you get Grohe)..
I adapted it to a square rain shower head we have for the bathroom. a few things to know in advance is that the raw box is not included. although it is typical for grohe but you should know that if you want everything grohe it would cost you $100 more. another thing to know is that it sticks out a bit more than other finishing kits you've seen. it's usually not a problem, but if you have a small shower room it could affect your decision. you need to install it deep enough otherwise you would see a bit of a gap between the back plate and the wall but a professional grohe plumber should be able to install this nice flush. i would recommend using someone who is familiar with grohe. we spent $300 to install 5 grohe lights and it took the guy about 4 hours but it was worth it and he knew all about installing it. the quality of the parts was very good, although we heard that some metal parts had been replaced by plastic in recent years, but still high quality. this has the great grohe chrome finish which is almost the best finish you would see on the market. nothing even comes close, not even moen or kohler. excellent modern look and excellent glossy finish. if the wall is not 100% yours and you have small tiles you may need to putty behind the backing sheet but if you have room and it fits roughly in the box it should be good enough. the control has a dual function, allowing you to control both the shower and the jet if necessary. the all-in-one functionality is quite useful. all in all a typical grohe fixture of great quality with a stunning chrome finish that will last for years. just make sure you install it correctly and use a grohe pro to do it. remember to buy a raw box and you could end up using putty if you are short on wall space but overall a great product.
